Cancellation of the 150th Bendigo Easter Fair

Why is the event cancelled?

Australia’s Chief Medical Officer has recommended all non-essential organised mass gatherings of more than 500 people should be cancelled from Monday March 16, 2020.

The Bendigo Easter Festival attracts more than 50,000 people each year, so it was considered too much of a risk to continue with the festival this year.

More information can be read in the media release

Who made the decision and when?

On Friday March 13, the City of Greater Bendigo and Bendigo Easter Fair Society agreed the 150th Bendigo Easter Fair would be staged in 2021 instead.

Why can’t it take place on another weekend this year?

The City and Bendigo Easter Fair Society wanted to maintain the tradition of the festival and continue to stage it at Easter time. Also, given it is such a special celebration this year, festival organisers did not want to run a scaled down event on another weekend.
